The Chief Mate Phase II course is designed to support deck officers to become Chief Mates on General Cargo Vessels. It builds upon the Chief Mate Phase I course with Increased focus on the Practical Management of shipboard operations including Navigation, Cargo Operations, Ship’s Stability, Marine Law and Leadership in performing duties as a Chief Mate. The course also will cover additional topics such as Emergency Preparation, Bridge Team Management and Safety Procedures that meet their respective industry standards IMO and STCW. The Chief Mate Phase II Course uses a Simulator Training method of instruction as well as assessments in either written or oral formats. Completing this course will also enable an officer to attempt Chief Mate Competency Exam (FG) which is administered by the applicable Maritime Authority.

What is Eligibility for Chief Mate Phase-II?

To qualify for the Chief Mate Phase II (Mercantile Marine) Qualification the following are required for eligibility:

1. A chief mate phase I certificate

2. A second mate CoC issued by DG Shipping or equivalent authority.

3. Approved sea service as a second officer as per IMO Guidance under STCW

4. Valid STCW mandatory certificates including advanced fire fighting and medical care.

5.  A valid CDC, passport & medical fitness certificate.
