Master FG Advanced Shipboard Management (ASM) Competency Course
ASM for FG masters is a 45-day competency program endorsed by the Directorate General of Shipping that seeks to provide candidates with the requisite skills and knowledge to enable them to pass the ASM examinations in preparation for acquisition of the Certificate of Competency for Master of an FG ship.
The course design conforms to the rules stipulated in the STCW 95 convention Section A-II/2 as well as those provided in Regulation II/2. In addition, the curriculum also complies with the requirements specified in the IMO Model Course 7.01 and the guidelines provided in the META Manual Vol. II, Appendix M-II/2A.
The Master's Certificate of Competency is valid for five years before undergoing the Revalidation and Upgrading Training course (RUT).
Eligibility Advanced Shipboard Management (ASM) Course
To enroll in the Master FG Advanced Shipboard Management (ASM) Competency Course, candidates must fulfill the following prerequisites:
Holding a valid Chief Mate (FG) CoC is mandatory.
A minimum of 12 months of sea service is required after obtaining the Chief Mate (FG) CoC, plus a total of 36 months of sea time since earning the Second Mate (FG) CoC.
Candidates who have 12 months of experience as a Chief Officer after their First Mate (FG) CoC can have their total sea service requirement shortened to 30 months.
