MEO Class 1 Preparatory Course in Chandigarh

MEO Class – I Preparatory Course is an obligatory 2 month course approved by DG Shipping. The main purpose of the course is to develop the technical skills of marine engineers for passing the Class I Certificate of Competency (CoC) exams for holding the rank of Chief Engineer of international voyages ships.

Training is conducted strictly according to STCW 95 Section A-II/2 requirements and the training materials are selected among IMO Model Course 7.01 and META Manual Volume II. Such training enables candidates to be ready to control all the processes onboard a ship successfully.

The acquired MEO Class 1 CoC certificate has a validity period for 5 years. Afterwards it needs to be renewed in the RUT Course.

MEO Class - I Preparatory Course Eligibility

Candidates from Chandigarh planning to enroll must meet the following DG Shipping eligibility criteria:

1.  For Motor/Steam Pathways

• Applicants must have completed 36 months of sea service as an Engineer Officer on Watch (EOW), including 12 months as a holder of an MEO Class II CoC. If the candidate has 12 months of sea time specifically as a 2nd Engineer Officer, the total requirement is reduced to 24 months.

• At least two-thirds of the total sea service period must consist of documented propelling time.

2. For Combined (Motor and Steam) Certifications

• A total of 40 months is required (20 months Motor + 20 months Steam), with a minimum of 12 months holding a combined MEO Class II CoC. For those with 12 months as a 2nd Engineer, this total is reduced to 36 months (18 months Motor + 18 months Steam).

• Documented propelling time must account for at least two-thirds of the sea service period.

• A valid INDoS ID.

• Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) proving 18 months of sea service.
