MEO Class 1 Preparatory Course in Delhi

MEO Class – I Preparatory Course is a compulsory two month long program sanctioned by the Directorate General of Shipping and is meant to train marine engineers in order to appear in the high level exams needed to be taken in order to earn the Certificate of Competency (CoC) for the role of a Chief Engineer on foreign going ships.

The complete course strictly follows the competency standards stated under Section A-II/2 of STCW Code and Regulation II/2. These courses follow the standards mentioned in the IMO Model Course 7.01 and the META Manual Vol. II, making sure that the candidate is prepared for a managerial job with all legal and technical knowledge.

Validity of MEO Class 1 CoC will be for five years and once this time period is over, the engineer needs to go for a Revalidation (RUT) course.

MEO Class - I Preparatory Course Eligibility

Candidates wishing to enroll in the MEO Class - I Preparatory Course must meet specific sea service and certification requirements.

1.  For Motor/Steam

• A minimum of 36 months of sea service as an Engineer Officer on Watch is required, including at least 12 months while holding an MEO Class II CoC. This 36-month requirement can be reduced to 24 months if the candidate has completed 12 months of sea time specifically as a 2nd Engineer Officer.

• The total propelling time must account for at least two-thirds of the overall sea service period.

2. For Combine (Motor and Steam)

• Candidates must have completed 40 months of sea service (split as 20 months on motor and 20 months on steam vessels), with at least 12 months served as a holder of a combined MEO Class II CoC. If the candidate has 12 months of service as a 2nd Engineer Officer, the total requirement is reduced to 36 months (18 months motor and 18 months steam).

• The recorded propelling time must be at least two-thirds of the relevant sea service duration.

Documents Required for MEO Class - I Preparatory Course

 To successfully apply for the MEO Class - I Preparatory Course, the following documentation must be provided:

• A registered INDoS Id.

• A valid Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) showing proof of the required sea service.

• The original MEO Class II Certificate of Competency (CoC).

• A formal sea time completion letter from the employer, detailing propelling time.
