MEO Class 1 Preparatory Course in Kolkata
The MEO Class 1 Preparatory Course is a highly intensive course sanctioned by the Directorate General of Shipping that extends for two months. The main objective of this course is to equip marine engineers with high-level competencies that will enable them to pass the Certificate of Competency (CoC) exams and become a Chief Engineer for foreign going ships.
The course syllabus is designed keeping in mind the requirements set forth in STCW 95 Regulation II/2 as well as the criteria laid down under Section A-II/2. Textbooks for this course have been selected from IMO Model Course 7.01 as well as Appendix M-II/2A of the META Manual Volume II.
The CoC for MEO Class 1 is valid for 5 years after which time it can be renewed through the RUT course.

MEO Class - I Preparatory Course Eligibility
Prospective candidates for the MEO Class 1 course in Kolkata must satisfy the following maritime service requirements:
1. For Motor/Steam Categories
Applicants must have completed 36 months of sea service as an Engineer Officer on Watch, which must include at least 12 months as a holder of an MEO Class II CoC. However, this total requirement is reduced to 24 months if the candidate has served 12 months as a Second Engineer.
At least two-thirds of the documented sea service period must be accounted for as propelling time.
2. For Combined (Motor and Steam) Category
Candidates require a total of 40 months of service (split as 20 months Motor and 20 months Steam), including no less than 12 months while holding a combined MEO Class II CoC. If the candidate has 12 months of experience as a Second Engineer, the requirement is shortened to 36 months total.
Propelling time must comprise at least two-thirds of the total sea service duration.

A valid INDoS Identifier
A valid Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) showing proof of required sea service
A valid MEO Class II Certificate of Competency (CoC)
