MEO Class – I Preparatory Training Program is a two-month comprehensive course approved by DG Shipping, which ensures that the marine engineers get the skills necessary to take up managerial positions. The training program is necessary for those who wish to pass the examination for MEO Class – I and obtain a Certificate of Competency (CoC) as a Chief Engineer on foreign-going ships.

In compliance with Regulation II/2 and STCW 95 Section A-II/2, the syllabus has been framed following the guidelines provided in IMO Model Course 7.01 and Appendix M-II/2A of META Manual Vol. II. MEO Class - I Preparatory Course Eligibility

To enroll in the MEO Class - I Preparatory Course, candidates must satisfy the following service requirements.

1.  For Motor/Steam

• Must complete 36 months of sea service as an Engineer Officer on Watch, including at least 12 months while holding an MEO Class II CoC. If the candidate has 12 months of service as a 2nd Engineer, the total requirement is reduced to 24 months.

• Propelling time must account for at least two-thirds of the total documented sea service.

2.  For Combine (Motor and Steam)

• Requires 40 months of service (20 months Motor + 20 months Steam), with a minimum of 12 months holding a combined MEO Class II CoC. This is reduced to 36 months if 12 months were served as a 2nd Engineer.

• Propelling time must be no less than two-thirds of the sea service period.

 Candidates applying for the preparatory course must have the following documentation ready:

• Official INDoS ID

• Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) with 18 months of documented service

• MEO Class II Certificate of Competency (CoC)

• Verification letter for propelling time from the employer
