MEO Class - I Preparatory Course Eligibility
Candidates wishing to enroll in the MEO Class 1 Preparatory Course must satisfy specific maritime service criteria.
1. For Motor/Steam
Applicants must document 36 months of service as an Engineer officer on watch, which must include at least 12 months while holding a COC as MEO Class II.
If a candidate has served 12 months as a 2nd Engineer officer for Steam/Motor, the total sea time requirement is reduced to 24 months.
The total propelling time must constitute at least two-thirds of the documented sea service period.
2. For Combined (Motor and Steam)
A minimum of 40 months (evenly split as 20 months Motor and 20 months Steam) is required, including at least 12 months holding a combined MEO Class II COC.
If the candidate has 12 months of service as a 2nd Engineer officer, the requirement is lowered to 36 total months (18 months Motor and 18 months Steam).
Propelling time must meet the two-thirds threshold of the total sea service period.
