MFA Course in Chandigarh
The Medical First Aid Course is a required maritime training course for those who work aboard vessels and need to be able to give urgent medical help onboard their vessel when there is no local medical assistance available. This is a course as mandated by the STCW and IMO to teach people how to respond to medical emergencies on the high seas until either medical help arrives by radio or the vessel reaches shore and can receive help.
This includes understanding basic anatomy and how to assess victims and patients using First Aid methods and CPR; how to control bleeding from injuries; how to treat burns; how to treat fractures; how to prevent hypothermia; and how to care for someone who is in shock; how to manage someone with a heart attack, breathing difficulty, or loss of consciousness; how to use the onboard medical kits and first aid supplies; how to use medications supplied onboard; how to care for patients and provide the proper hygiene while caring for them; how to document injuries and maintain appropriate records; and emphasising the importance of practical drills in which crew members can practice their skills, make good decisions under pressure, and communicate effectively in an emergency situation. When crew members feel confident and competent to respond to medical first aid emergencies, they will be in a better position to create a safe work environment on a vessel.
