Second Mate Foundation Course Description:

The Second Mate Foundation Course is a 2-month DG shipping-approved course that is mandatory for the aspiring Ratings who wish to attend for the second mate CoC exam, The main objective is to prepare a candidate to be well-equipped with the knowledge of Nautical Mathematics, Nautical Physics, Nautical Chemistry and Electricals and Electricity. The course came into force with the scheme for Deck Ratings to appear for Navigational Watch-keeping Officer keeping (FG vessel) having educational qualification of 10th Standard.

Eligibility for Second Mate Foundation Course

To attend the Second Mate Foundation Course, you need to clear all of the points mentioned below. 

1. Completed 6-month approved GP rating course.

2. After completion of 18 months of sea service, candidates are permitted to attend the two-month foundation Course and appear for the foundation course examination for 2nd Mate(FG) 

3. Sea time completion letter from the company and SSTP Cadet Record Book

4. Valid INDoS number

5. Valid Indian Passport

6. Valid Indian CDC
